#BreakTheBias with Katie Sadler

Imagine a gender equal world, what does that look like for you?

I would love it if we didn’t have to even think of an ‘ideal’ world like that. I am all for equal rights in every way, shape and form. Be yourself and be proud. We should all be celebrated every day!

I really like the social campaign that has been run a few times for different reasons - #BeKind. I take that message with me everywhere I go and always treat others how I would like to be treated.

Have you ever experienced a time where a male counterpart was praised over you on a shared project?  How did that make you feel and how did you address this?

Yes, and I addressed it. He didn’t do it again.

Even though saying that, there has been many a time that I have been made to feel really small for some great work that I have done and not confronted it. I was a lot younger and fresh then though.

Have you ever challenged gender stereotypes, discrimination and bias?

You know, not as much as I should have when I have had the opportunity to say something.

Do you believe that gender equality in the workplace is improving?

Over the years that I have been working, yes, I see definite improvements every day. ICG is very refreshing as there is a lot of equality across the business – lots of female bosses!

If you could share a piece of advice to your younger self about your career, what would it be?

Don’t let people put you down because of where you came from. Be proud of what you have achieved and take every opportunity that comes your way – ignore that imposter syndrome!
