#BreakTheBias with Miriam Palk

In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, we asked a selection of our female colleagues a few questions around this year’s theme of #BreakTheBias. Continue reading to hear what Miriam Palk had to say

Imagine a gender equal world, what does that look like for you?

Equal respect regardless of gender.

Have you ever experienced a time where a male counterpart was praised over you on a shared project? How did that make you feel and how did you address this?

I have not experienced this but if I did. I would challenge what happened.

Have you ever challenged gender stereotypes, discrimination and bias?

Yes.

I have challenged colleagues, patients and visitors on wards when I have seen or heard gender issues. These affected both my male and female colleagues.

How will you be celebrating International Women’s Day?

I will be working and hopefully celebrating International Women's Day.

Why is gender equality important?

It's important to recognise how every gender should have the same opportunities so that everyone has the right to achieve the best they can.

Do you believe that gender equality in the workplace is improving?

Yes but it still has a long way to go.

If you could share a piece of advice to your younger self about your career, what would it be?

Be open to all opportunities and seek them do not expect them to be just handed to you.
