What is Pride? It's about being true to who you are, without being confined by labels. It's about being recognised for your talents and skills, not defined by your identity. It's about being valued for your individuality.
Growing up in a conservative society in India was not easy. Although the country has made significant strides, especially after the decriminalisation of Section 377 in 2018, many members of the LGBTQIA+ community still face bullying, discrimination, and a lack of acceptance.
I am fortunate to have an extremely supportive family who is proud of me for who I am. I also have a strong support system of allies, friends, and colleagues. At ICG Medical, I have never felt the need to hide my true self. Since joining the organisation in 2016, I have always been able to be "me." My career growth here has been based on my contributions and hard work, and I have never had to worry that my sexuality would impact my professional progress.
My spouse and I have been together for more than 12 years, and we feel blessed to be surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues who love us for who we are. They celebrate our achievements, anniversaries, and most importantly, love.
Workplaces around the world should strive to create a positive and open environment for all employees, regardless of their sexuality, gender, race, religion, or disability. When this happens, the world will be a happier place for everyone.
Happy Pride!
