From Team Leader to Recruitment Consultant: Chanel’s Talent Mobility Story

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been sharing amazing stories of our internal employees and their transitions in the organisation, and our latest story is nothing but inspiring. We encourage our employees to explore new roles under the ICG banner, enabling them to grow their skills and contribute to the company’s mission in diverse and meaningful ways. One such success story comes from a recent internal transfer within our team, highlighting how career transitions can open new opportunities while supporting personal development.

In this blog, we delve into the journey of one of our team members, Chanel Prinsloo, who recently transitioned into a new role, and how this move has enhanced her career growth, broadened her expertise, and aligned her work with ICG Medical’s mission.

Motivation for the Move

Chanel was drawn to the opportunity to transition into the USA recruitment market for quite some time. As she shares, “The USA market is vast and diverse, and I saw this as a chance to broaden my expertise and impact within the company.”

Her transition was motivated by a desire to tackle new challenges and contribute to the company’s expansion in the US. She embraced this chance to grow both professionally and personally, excited by the prospect of working within such a dynamic sector.

How Previous Roles Prepared Her for the Transition

Internal mobility at ICG Medical is designed to allow our employees to leverage their previous experiences as they step into new roles. This has been no different for Chanel, who brought her extensive knowledge as a Resourcing Team Leader into her new position as a Recruitment Consultant for GS USA.

“Managing a team of resourcers taught me the importance of setting clear goals, providing guidance, and fostering collaboration,” she says, reflecting on how her leadership skills continue to serve her well in her new role. This solid foundation helped her hit the ground running in the US market, where she quickly adapted her skills to the specific needs of American healthcare professionals.

Learning New Skills and Gaining Industry Insights

Since transitioning into the USA recruitment department, Chanel has developed an in-depth understanding of the American healthcare sector, particularly around travel nursing regulations and state licensure processes.

“One of the most significant areas of growth has been understanding state licensure processes, compliance, and healthcare standards in the US,” she explains. This learning has been crucial in ensuring our recruitment practices are compliant and tailored to the unique needs of US nurses and healthcare facilities.

She has also sharpened her logistical management skills, particularly when it comes to supporting travel nurses through assignments. “From coordinating assignments to ensuring nurses are well-supported throughout their placements, I’ve strengthened my ability to deliver positive experiences for both clients and candidates,” she adds. This dedication aligns with our mission to improve patient care through a streamlined and supportive recruitment process.

Overcoming Challenges in the Internal Transfer Process

While it has been a positive experience, Chanel also needed to overcome certain challenges, particularly around adapting to new operational structures and navigating the fast-paced nature of the US travel nursing market.

“Adjusting to time zones, communication styles, and the rapid pace of travel nurse recruitment was a challenge,” she recalls. To overcome these hurdles, she took a proactive approach, seeking mentorship from colleagues with experience in the US market and dedicating time to learning about the healthcare system.

Her perseverance in overcoming these challenges reflects ICG Medical’s commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for all employees making internal career transitions.

Support for Career Growth and Internal Mobility

Throughout her transition, Chanel received continuous support from leadership and colleagues, which enabled her to succeed in her new role.

“ICG Medical fosters a culture of mentorship and growth,” she shares. “Throughout my transition, I received consistent support from colleagues and leadership who shared their insights and expertise.” This culture of collaboration ensures that our employees feel empowered to explore new roles and career paths within the organisation.

Aligning Career Aspirations with ICG Medical’s Mission

For us, internal mobility isn’t just about career growth—it’s about aligning individual aspirations with our company’s mission. In her new role, Chanel is helping optimize recruitment processes, which contributes directly to improving operational efficiency and enhancing our ability to deliver top-notch patient care.

“By delivering faster, more reliable services, I am directly contributing to the company’s reputation for excellence and supporting our overall mission of enhancing patient care,” she explains.

The Rewarding Experience of Internal Mobility

For Chanel, the most rewarding aspect of her internal transfer has been the learning and development opportunities. She reflects on the personal growth this transition has fostered: “Being in a new role has exposed me to new challenges, technologies, and strategies that I wasn’t familiar with before,” she says.

This ability to continually learn and develop is at the heart of ICG Medical’s commitment to employee growth. We believe that by offering our team members the chance to explore new roles, we create an environment where both the individual and the company can thrive.
